About the Artwork
I have lived and painted in the Macdonald Valley, NSW for over 20 years. During the 5-year period from 2018-2023, the land and its wonderful, resilient, were ravaged by drought, fire, and floods. The Road Less Travelled depicts the flooded roads which severed all access to the valley. This work reflects the conflicting and bittersweet feelings I, like many, have towards the power of nature – the sheer terror of its impact and the wonder of its beauty. The apparent serenity of the reflections, belie the trauma felt, not only in the Hawkesbury region, but throughout rural NSW.
