About the Artwork

Stone Tide, Weeping Tree delves into the heart of Tasmania’s central highland plateau, with a profound focus on the emblematic Miena cider gums (Eucalyptus gunnii). These resilient beings, thriving at altitudes up to 1050 meters, are now confronting dire threats from climate change, habitat disruption, and invasive species. Through this lens, my work reflects on the fragility of ecosystems amidst changing landscapes. It's a narrative about survival, decline, and the critical ecological roles these trees play. It intertwines art and science to illuminate the conservation urgencies of our time, aiming to foster a deeper appreciation of our environment.
