About the Artwork

Where Light Settles grew out of a month-long residency in Hobart, where I spent time observing the Tasmanian bush at ground level. At the base of Mount Wellington, I was struck by how moss transformed a field of rock and fallen timber into something soft and luminous. Painted entirely by hand using layered, airbrushed acrylic, the image was built slowly through translucent layers of colour. The vivid greens sit against a forest reduced to greys, highlighting both fragility and resilience. The work reflects on how life persists, binding and reshaping the landscape over time.

About the Artist

Melbourne based painter Todd Simpson creates airbrushed acrylic landscapes exploring fragility and resilience in the Australian bush. Inspired by time spent in Tasmania, his recent works contrast luminous moss-covered forms against monochrome forests, using realism and atmosphere to reflect on memory, change and the quiet beauty of the natural world.
