About the Artwork

Cape works in situ, deep in the Australian landscape. Exposing herself and the work to the elements over time. Engaging in a very physical process, using locally-sourced natural materials, such as soil, rust and charcoal. Emotionally responding to the landscape in order to render an authentic, instinctual act of expression. Seeking out the contrast of survival and decay, offering a portrait of our unique landscape in all its power and poetry. This work was created in Southern NSW post the 2024 floods and resulting landslides. Cape worked within a soaked landscape of rust-stained floodwaters and blood-stained soil.
