About the Artwork
Dusk, the cusp of light and dark in the landscape, is a potent time of the day, bringing conflicting emotions. At first, we feel reflective enjoying the beauty of the declining light, then follows the feeling of urgency, as we don’t wish to be caught in the dark. The nocturne is a genre that I have returned to many times over more than thirty years. Evening Calm is my most recent contribution to the genre, representing a progression in my palette and ability to convey the special quality of light and colour on the edge of their absence.
