About the Artwork
My tiny oil painting, Trill, continues my decade-long exploration of inner-city gardens. I’m interested in green spaces that coexist with the bustle of urban life. Amid chaotic, fast-paced cities filled with noise, traffic and distraction, these gardens serve as an antidote. My painting reflects the psychological and physical need for nature in dense environments. My practice draws on the ancient tradition of miniature painting, a form that has long emphasised intimacy and detail. Working at a small scale requires the viewer to slow down and observe closely – encouraging a kind of engagement that parallels the restorative qualities of gardens themselves.
