About the Artwork
Describing herself as a visceral artist, Julz is always working towards capturing the ‘essence’ of the landscape. Prolifically painting her chosen subject, completely immersing herself in it. Often returning to the same place at different times of the day, with its different light and in all weather. Her artistic process begins en plein air, on a tinny where she draws with gouache paints, collecting colour sketches which she later uses in her studio to remind herself of how it felt to be out in the landscape. Expressing the ‘feels’ of the place is of utmost importance in Julz's practice.
