About the Artwork
Walking on Bruny Island to Cape Queen Elizabeth. Watching, step by step, elements come into view, disappear, and appear again in different contexts and combinations. Sensing and feeling this ancient place and imagining the people who walked here before when ‘Bruny’ was not its name. This is a record of landscape-as-experience, a site for contemplation and wonder about how I might belong.
About the Artist
Originally from Switzerland, I moved to Hobart from Sydney four years ago. I have a background in the social sciences and the visual arts and have taught at a number of tertiary art schools. Printmaking, specifically woodcut printing, is my major medium. Through its often quite physical process, I explore my experiences walking in the natural, breathtakingly beautiful Tasmanian environment, often in forests. I am mindful of how the physicality of these places carry in them the weight of history.
