About the Artwork
Newcastle Harbour was inspired by an artist residency at Nobby’s Whibayganba Lighthouse in Newcastle, N.S.W. From this vantage point, the artist watched the daily activity of one of the busiest ports in the country, experienced all the elements, and reflected on her life and connection to the city. The painting encapsulates a vivid interplay between place, memory, and the raw energy of the landscape surrounding the iconic lighthouse and the bustling Newcastle Harbour. Through bold, gestural strokes, dynamic forms, and vivid bursts of colour, Street channels the unspoken rhythms of the environment into an expressive, abstract composition.
