About the Artwork
After visiting The Devil’s Kitchen at Eaglehawk Neck, I was captivated by the spirit of the place. It resonated profoundly with my psyche. This painting is an unrestrained exploration of what Devil’s Kitchen evokes. The landscape began as a painting from memory, then I freely revealed the forms within the rock as they emerged from my unconscious. The process felt like a geological excavation. It uncovered our ancient and complex bond with the earth. But now, we are emotionally dissociated from the very earth that keeps us alive. We exploit and disembowel the earth at our peril.
